His style of minimal dialogue and meticulous background details gained popularity. From 2009 to 2016, he serialized Knights of Sidonia in Monthly Afternoon. In 2015, he won the Kodansha Manga Award for Knights of Sidonia. The series was also adapted into a television anime.
